Empowering Adventure: A Heartfelt Thanks to Jumpstart

Trips for Kids Ottawa is thrilled to share that we’ve received a Jumpstart Community Development Grant to help support our fall bike program. Jumpstart grants are designed to keep kids moving, and thanks to this support, more youth in our community can experience the joy and freedom of riding through the woods on crisp autumn days.

This season, everything came together beautifully—perfect riding weather, new “learn-to-ride” classes, great trails, and a crew of incredible volunteers, both returning and new. With Cat Weaver guiding the programs and Kerry stepping in as equipment manager (with help from this grant), we’ve been able to provide kids not only with safe bikes and helmets but also the mentorship and encouragement they need to thrive.

Why does this matter? Because time outdoors isn’t just fun—it’s essential. Studies have shown that nature-based activities can build confidence, improve mental health, reduce stress, and foster a sense of belonging. When kids pedal through forest trails, they’re not just learning to ride; they’re learning resilience, joy, and connection.

We’re deeply grateful to Jumpstart, our community partners, and our volunteers for ensuring a successful season. The fun begins where the pavement ends. At Trips for Kids Ottawa, every youth deserves the chance to discover adventure beyond the pavement.
