Spring has sprung, and at TFKO, that means we barely put the skates away and it is time to start tuning up bikes, cleaning bike helmets, and beautifying the grounds around our storage containers.

Tuning up our fleet of over 50 bicycles is a massive undertaking, but thanks to our volunteer bike mechanics, it is done in no time. We had a dozen mechanics volunteer their time and expertise at Franco Ouest this year, making it an extremely efficient process. Our smaller fleet at Banting was also tuned by half a dozen mechanics in record time!

Not only do the bikes get into top shape, we clean every single helmet by hand – thank you to our student volunteers! Every one of our 100 helmets is washed and dried, then inspected by our Program Manager, Cat Weaver, before being placed back into bins for storage in our bike containers.

Students are also responsible for taking care of the grounds around our containers. At TFKO, we are proud of the work we do, and our students help us by ensuring that our entire on-site area is clean and beautiful. This is also no small feat, but many hands make light the work!
